Louisiana is now the first state in the country requiring insurance companies to offer premium discounts to commercial vehicle operators with compliant dashcams and telematics. Here’s everything you need to qualify.
Formally known as HB 549 and codified as La. R.S. 22:1482.2, Act 19 requires insurance companies to offer mandatory premium reductions on the liability portions of insurance policies covering commercial motor vehicles equipped with qualifying dashboard cameras and telematics systems.
Louisiana’s commercial auto insurance rates have historically run nearly 40% above the national average — one of the most expensive states in the country for fleet insurance. Act 19 was designed specifically to change that by incentivizing safety technology adoption.
This is the first state law of its kind in the United States. Other states are expected to follow Louisiana’s lead.
To receive the insurance discount, your commercial vehicles must meet the following technical requirements at the time of policy issuance or renewal.
These solutions are designed to meet Louisiana Act 19 requirements. All include qualifying dashcams and telematics systems.
